General Meeting – May 2022 – SDR applications: Ways to use the RF “Swiss Army Knife”

General Meeting – May 2022 – SDR applications: Ways to use the RF “Swiss Army Knife”

Greetings RWK!

Coming up on Monday, it’s time for the RWK May Meeting. As previously announced, we have resumed In-Person meetings as well as simulcast on Zoom for those that do not want to attend in-person.  We will also have a recording available on the website after the meeting is over.

We will have our regular RWK Social Hour & Beau’s Korner starting at 6pm.  Please come at 6pm and have an eyeball QSO with all the people that you haven’t seen in several months.  We will have plenty of coffee and cookies as well.

Also, Please wear your RWK Nametag!  We have lots of members that have joined in the last couple of years and everyone needs a little help in matching callsigns to smiling faces.  If you can’t find (or don’t have) your RWK nametag, we will have blank paper nametags and you can order a replacement for a nominal charge.  I’d like everyone to introduce themselves to at least two members that they haven’t previously met face-to-face! We have a lot of ground to recover.

Our first In-Person meeting was a big success, with 57 members attending.  Please get back in the habit of RWK monthly meetings. So join us next Monday for our May Meeting (and invite your friends)!

If you have any additional questions about the meeting, please send me a direct message (remember the $5 fine for reply to the list!)

We look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Monday May 9th

6pm – RWK Social Hour + Beau’s Korner Mentoring
Please join us for RWK Social Hour and Beau’s Korner Mentoring at 6pm.  Come enjoy coffee and cookies and have eyeball QSOs with fellow RWK members.  If you have ham radio questions, please ask and we’ll do our best to get you answers.

7pm – General Meeting – SDR applications: Ways to use the RF “Swiss Army Knife” – Jack Spitznagel KD4IZ

It is common knowledge that SDR devices make interesting and economical receivers and transceivers, but what else are they really good for? I will describe several of the many alternative uses for the spectrum scope and waterfall diagrams that are provided by SDR software. You will find these uses will help you to better understand what a poorly configured transmitter, the ionosphere, and QRM can do to signal quality and readability. Hopefully these bonus uses will help make you a better operator.

Meeting Location: St. Barnabas Church, 1220 West Belt Line Road, Richardson TX 75080.  Meeting is in the church’s assembly room (Providence Hall). Park in the rear parking lot and enter from the rear.  Click this for the map.
