May is Technology month here at RWK, and we wanted to dig a little deeper on something that you might not have heard about. Many of you saw the announcement of a new Flex Radio (the Aurora) that transmits 500 watts in much the same size and shape as a conventional radio, with no “linear amplifier” and much lower power consumption. But how is that possible? The technique is called Polar Modulation and it allows transmitters to operate similar to switching power supplies, with over 80% efficiency.
