The primary contact is Roger Stierman, WA0VYU – firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is a background check required based on the information you provide in the application form below. Please complete it and scan it as a PDF or image file (cell phone camera images are fine) and email it to Roger and Scott Greeson email@example.com with The Richardson Office of Emergency Management.
After the background check Roger will notify you of your RACES number. Once you have your RACES number, take the NIMS courses IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700. You can find them online at https://training.fema.gov/nims/
Attend the Skywarn Basic class once every 2 years. The NWS posts their schedule in December; the class in Collin County is typically the third Saturday of January and for Dallas County it is the third Saturday in February. Either class will be OK, though the Dallas class covers procedures Richardson RACES follows for Dallas weather nets.
Please download/print a PDF copy of your certifications when you pass the courses, and email them to Roger and Colin Sledge, KA5PZH firstname.lastname@example.org).
Once you’re a member, Participate in at least twelve Training Nets each year. Nets are held on K5RWK (147.12(+) PL 110.9) on the First Monday of the month at 9PM, and after the Dallas County RACES Net on the third Sunday of the month on W5FC (146.88(-) PL 110.9) that starts at 8PM. We will go to K5RWK after that net finishes for check-ins.
Participate in at least one Physical Meeting each year. There are physical meetings each quarter during the second month of the quarter, usually on the third Monday of the month in place of the second training net that month. Roger posts the physical meeting schedule the beginning of the year.
Participate in two public service events. Examples are the Dallas Marathon, Richardson Christmas Parade, Wild Ride, and Plano Balloon Festival. Other events qualify; please contact Roger if you wish to include an event you’re assisting (e.g. I helped with communications at the Corporate Olympics in past years).
The City of Richardson conducts siren tests on the first Wednesday of each month at noon; assisting with eight siren tests counts as one public service event.
Please contact Roger if you have further questions.
